Title: The Human Algorithm: Keeping People in the Loop

Abstract:

The promise of AI is seductive: instant answers, rapid production, and unmatched efficiency. But in our rush to automate, we face a critical risk – confusing “speed” with “value.” Just because AI can generate a solution in seconds doesn’t mean it’s the right solution. This session challenges the “faster is better” narrative, arguing that true organizational agility isn’t about raw speed; it’s about the ability to sense, respond, and apply human judgment to complex problems.

We will explore the concept of the “Human Algorithm” – the unique capacity for context, ethics, and critical thinking that no model can replicate. Rather than viewing AI as a replacement for the team, we will look at how to position it as a powerful collaborator that handles the output, while humans retain full ownership of the outcome. Join us to discover how to design workflows where technology accelerates the work, but people – and their interactions – remain the heartbeat of innovation.

About the speaker:

Anu Smalley is a leadership coach, Certified Scrum Trainer®, and a dedicated advocate for the ethical evolution of work. As the CEO of Capala Consulting Group and Co-Founder of both Team KatAnu and Eolas Labs – a firm specializing in AI education and products – Anu sits at the intersection of human psychology and technological innovation.

Returning to her hometown of Hyderabad for this keynote is a significant milestone. It was here, at Osmania University, that she earned her master’s in psychology, a degree that serves as the bedrock for her “human-first” approach to the Age of AI. With over 3 years of IT experience, Anu acts as a pragmatic guide and ethical guardian, helping global leadership teams understand that while AI is a powerful collaborator for output, humans must retain full ownership of the outcome through critical thinking and judgment.

Known for helping global teams reconnect and find their collective “why,” Anu’s work is always centered on growth—both organizational and individual. When she isn’t shaping the future of Agile and AI, she is a traveler and connoisseur of life, often found exploring the bourbon distilleries of Kentucky or global wineries. Above all, she is passionate about empowering the next generation, mentoring young boys and girls to find their voices and stand tall & firm as they enter the world.
